I purchased it for small jobs like cutting down saplings, brown pepper trees, anything 2 to 3 inches in diamater. The oil resevior is too small but reseviors have a habit of not working anyway. There were a lot of the grape vines that were at least 4 inches or more in diameter. The saw performed great,the battery lasted longer than I expected it would before it needed to be recharged. In the winter months, most of the trees that we come across are small trees bent over the road from heavy snow load. I use the provided small bottle to manually oil the chain after each usage. The batteries are interchangeable with other B&D 18v products. The only limitation is the usage from the single battery before requiring a charge. I have two additional batteries, so this is not a problem for me , but could be for others. ...more

It does what it was made to do. I have a regular chain saw and a manual pole saw/lopper. Don't expect it to replace a full size chain saw or a good pole lopper. This fills a gap between the two. I have used it on branches 4" in diameter and it worked just fine. It is also handy on smaller branches that are too big for the pole lopper, but that are awkward to cut with a manual pole saw because they wave back and forth ...more

This is especially nice when doing long projects that require extensive battery use. I had been using the cheap one that came with my set which would take hours to recharge my batteries. It comes with 2 18 volt batteries, 1 charger and you will need them. I get about 15-20 minutes of hard use on the saw before the battery starts fading and I have to switch batteries. The drill is great. The cordless screwdriver uses AA batteries. I bought some pruning blades on amazon for the saw and have used it to chop down small trees up to 8 inches in diameter. It's easier than getting the chainsaw out sometimes, and quieter. ...more

When I saw this in a bundle I knew that this was what I wanted. If you look to just buy a reciprocating saw by itself, this bundle is from $10-20 more then what sells on ebay or anywhere else. Whaples" said about the batteries not fitting other B&D devices and took a chance. He was right, because the new drill is dual speed the batteries have 2 additional prongs that don't slide into my old drill. One of the prongs is "L" shaped and is the one that causes the problem. I started purchasing them last year and now own them all. Easy to switch from one tool to another in short time and with lots of batteries (some come with two) I always have fresh. Since he couldn't find the same brand locally (Hitachi) he bought me the Black and Decker VPX1212 to replace it. I'm satisfied. I spent the weekend building a foundation for a greenhouse and put up some fencing around the new building. The drill worked well for driving screws. There is a funny noise when the drill starts to spin up, which I actually got to like as I have some feedback when the drill starts to go as you keep squeezing the trigger. One thing I dislike very much are the lights on the charger (I know this is a drill review but the charger is part of the "family.")
